WOW!

THANKS! to everyone who commented on my blog. Everyone has been so nice. I do have my self convinced that I am going to love doing triathlons...you know, once I actually do one! I love training for them. I even like the running after I'm done! I think the events for my triathlon should be renamed "Swim, Bike, Walk/Shuffle". I was able to "jog" 1/2 mile last Saturday and I was completely thrilled with myself. That was the end of a 40 minute jog/walk and I probably could have walked just as fast.

In February when I started training. One of the beginning workouts was a 15 minute run. Well, a 15 minute run was 5 minutes walking 1 min. jog 1 min. walk, 1 min. jog, 1 min. walk - as a warmup and then the remaining 6 minutes I would continue to alternate 1 min. walk and 1 min. jog. I was ready to die after the first time that I did this.

I now have to jog 5 or 6 minutes with a 1 minute walk in between. I don't quite feel like dying. I am so thrilled with the Tri-Newbies program because I have truly been able to add slowly to what they have told me to do and so now I feel capable of doing more.

Couch Potato to 5K - I have seen this program and I think it looks terrific. However, I am not willing to mess with my Tri-Newbies thing until after the triathlon. I don't want to discourage myself by trying to many things. However, I do have it printed out and I think I might try to talk my dad into following that program with me after the triathlon.

I am fairly convinced that I will continue to bike and swim but the running will be more of a committment. I definately like following a program.

Again thank you to all of you who posted. It is truly inspirational to me. Misty, you are fantastic! I'm certainly happy that I found your blog and was able to read about your great accomplishments!

Wow, jogging a half mile at the end of a 40 minute run is great! Running fitness takes a long time to develop because it's the hardest on our bodies (of the 3 triathlon sports). I've used run/walk intervals in all my tris, even the half Ironman. You are doing a great job. Keep it up!

Hey, don't worry about the speed! You're getting there, that's what counts! Consistency is the key!

And don't be afraid of going hard on your biking and swimming, because the recovery is MUCH faster than from running, so you can build faster.

Good luck! We'll be following along!
